ChatAbilities

Our Services

Unlike other social group formats, we carefully match children with similar profiles.
Additionally, our groups are ongoing and embed a variety of activities both in the clinic and out in the community. We believe this fosters carryover into everyday family lifestyles and peer interaction.

Consultations/Screenings

Are you concerned about your child's speech and/or language development? Contact us for a complimentary consultation with one of our therapists. During the consultation, you will be asked to describe your concerns, and the therapist will then determine whether or not a comprehensive evaluation is warranted. ChatAbilities offers complimentary speech and language screenings. These screenings allow us to quickly and informally assess your child's communication abilities in order to determine whether or not an evaluation is warranted.

Evaluations

We offer complimentary consultations and screenings with our therapists! We also conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess your child's current level of functioning, and help you to determine the next steps take.

Speech and Language Therapy

We offer individual speech-language therapy, where all sessions are tailored to your child's specific needs. ChatAbilities works hard to always ensure the use of research based and up to date methodologies!

Reading Intervention

Our reading specialists work with kids to remediate reading and writing skills, as well as provide support for classroom work using various multi-sensory methods.

Group Therapy

At ChatAbilities we offer various social groups that utilize Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking Curriculum to facilitate the growth and development of social language skills. Groups are available for all ages! Interest focused groups are also available and always changing. These groups will allow your child to practice functional speech and language skills while working on specific areas of need or interest!
This group will focus on building school-readiness skills! Children will work to build the academic and social skills needed for success in school, as well as in social settings such as on play dates or at the playground. The goals of this group will target skills such as identifying and expressing feelings, turn taking, sharing, comprehension, problem solving, and dealing with transitions.
These goals will be targeted through direct and interactive instruction while incorporating play, games, and role-playing activities. Clinicians provide a small and safe setting where children feel supported in learning to interact successfully with their peers.
This group will utilize the fun of LEGO® as a means of facilitating communication skills, comprehension, following directions, while enhancing social language development. Through this program, kids will be guided toward expanding their language (both expressive and receptive) skills in a fun and CREATIVE way!
Using LEGO® in a therapeutic and structured is fun and naturally reinforces appropriate social behavior. LEGO® Therapy has been systematically evaluated in research studies and has shown that using LEGO® as a modality for group interaction and communication with peers increased self-initiated social contact and the duration of social interaction in other group settings such as in the playground and school cafeteria, and improved social competence in general.
This social group will focus on building relationships with peers through the use of current trends and pop culture in today's society. By increasing their knowledge base of the "trends" we tend to take for granted, we will work on broadening their interests so they can connect with other kids and develop an awareness of their peers and skills to be a part of various peer groups! By exposing them to a variety of activities, kids learn how to track pop culture so they can stay up-to-date with the latest trends. They will learn how to effectively utilize today's booming social media (Twitter, FaceBook, Instagram etc...) in socially appropriate ways to make positive impressions on their peers.
This writing workshop was created to help bring forth your child's inner author! The skills we use when writing can systematically improve an individual's expressive and receptive language skills. Through this group, children will work on organizational skills, expanding their thoughts, and being more descriptive with their writing. Participants will have the opportunity to explore different genres, such as short fiction, poetry, journalism, and playwriting. Let's make writing fun and continue to build and develop social relationships this summer!
Our social learning groups and individual sessions meet once a week under the guidance of experienced, licensed, and certified professionals, using a variety of methods, including Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking Curriculum!
